A convenient way to cook and prepare meals, the Instant Pot has exploded in popularity over the past couple of years. Capable of performing an array of functions- from sautéing to making yogurt, the 7-in-1 cooker has replaced various kitchen gadgets for many people all around the world. Available for purchase at a number of retailers, a variety of models are available including the Duo, Lux, and Smart.
Like most things in the kitchen, however, there comes a time where it needs to be washed. What’s the proper way to wash the Instant Pot? What are the secrets to keeping it clean? Before we dive into the cleaning instructions, it’s important to note that the cooker consists of a number of different parts (e.g. sealing ring, inner pot, outside pot, steaming rack, etc). Depending on the part, the method of cleaning can vary.
In this particular article, we’ll be focusing on how to clean and wash the lid. An essential piece of the Instant Pot, it’s responsible for sealing the pot during the cooking process. Not just that, but it prevents debris and the like from falling into your prepared food.
How do I Clean the Lid of the Instant Pot?
For those of you who aren’t fond of hand washing, rejoice- for the lid is dishwasher safe (given that it’s placed on the top-rack). Before placing it there, however, it’s recommended to remove both the anti-block shield and the sealing ring so that it can be thoroughly cleaned.
To prevent the lid from retaining doors, it’s best to set it upside down (i.e. on the pot), prior to use or until it’s completely dried.
Prior to cleaning the lid, it’s also advisable to double check whether or not that’s any debris or food in the float and steam release valves. If this happens, it can prevent the Instant Pot from achieving the necessary pressure for cooking.
How do I Clean the Sealing Ring of the Lid?
The sealing ring is normally tucked inside the lid. When it’s time to clean it, you can either place it in the dishwasher or hand wash it with soapy water.
Tip: Before inserting the sealing ring back into the lid, you want to make sure that it has dried thoroughly
Tip #2: Check to make sure that the sealing ring is put securely back in place before you start to use the cooker
As you can probably guess, the sealing ring plays an essential role in the functioning of the Instant Pot. If you notice any cracking or damage, it may be time to purchase a replacement.
Tip: Using non-genuine Instant Pot sealing rings may void your cooker’s warranty
How do I Clean the Anti-Block Shield?
Similar to the sealing ring, it’s recommended that you clean the anti-block shield after each use. To remove it from the lid, you want to push on the side of the shield using your thumb, and lift up.
Instead of placing it in the dishwasher, wash the soap with warm, soapy water. Afterward, wipe dry with a soft cloth.
How do I Wash the Tempered Glass Instant Pot Lid?
Some people prefer using a tempered glass lid for the Instant Pot (purchased separately). Available in three sizes (i.e. 3 qt, 6 qt, 8 qt), its transparent glass allows for clear viewing of the food- making it perfect for sautéing and slow cooking.
As easy to clean as it is to use, simply pop it into the dishwasher. Alternatively, it can also be cleaned by hand using soapy water. Dry with a soft cloth after rinsing with water.
